Why Being a Superwoman Might be your Kryptonite

Hello Flower Tribe,

This summer has been full of blood moons, solar eclipses and full moons. Everyone is busy talking about how these celestial occurrences may be affecting our energy, but have we taken time to think about how we may be affecting our own energy levels?

Defining Superwoman

For centuries, we have heard about the superwoman phenomenon. She has been the centerpiece of the family and even the community. She nurtures, supports and loves all of those connected to her, sometimes even at the expense of herself. She gives fully and completely and always "makes things happen" and "gets things done."

Analyzing Superwoman

But what happens when the superwoman who everyone loves &needs becomes depleted? What happens when her superpower works against her?

Close your eyes for a second and I want you to think about about a superwoman. Who is she? What does she do? What makes her so super? As you visualize this woman, I want you to take your focus off of her tangible accomplishments and draw your attention to her physical, mental, or emotional well-being. Is she super in these areas too?

Perhaps, your discussions have always been center around "how she does it" and your amazement of her being able to accomplish so much despite certain circumstances. Don't feel bad that your conversations have not been centered around these components. If we're being honest, she may never have taken the time to reflect on these needs either. Unfortunately, many superwomen tend to make time for everything else, but an opportunity to check in with their own needs.

Getting a little more Personal

Is the superwoman you visualized you? Have you been so busy being great for everyone else that you have neglected yourself and where did you learn this concept?

In the Beginning

Somewhere back in the inception of womanhood (I'm exaggerating my point) began a formative belief that being a superwoman or a supermom meant being there for everyone else and getting it all done. This concept was then passed down generation after generation without the discussion on the limitations of overexerting yourself or even more importantly what does it mean to be a happy and healthy superwoman.

Perhaps, in examining the superwoman concept, we can analyze how some choices may stand it opposition to self-care and self-preservation. Or better yet, we can analyze how to make your superpowers work for you.

So let's talk about it.

Is there a way to support your relationships and obligations without neglecting yourself? Is there a way to truly be a SUPERWOMAN.

The answer is yes, and with these three suggestions you can continue to wear the cape and save yourself.

Self-Care to the Rescue

1. Superwomen always remember themselves. It is important to pour from a full cup or in this case fly with a sturdy cape. So give self-neglect the boot & maintain focus on your spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental well being.

2. Superwomen are intuitive and honest. Supporting the world outside you may be important, but supporting the world within you is essential. Pay attention to & remain honest about your needs. It is really important that you take time to reflect about who you are, what you need and how you are feeling. From here you can prioritize your needs and communicate them to the necessary people.

3. Superwomen take time to take off their cape. Down time and tuning into yourself is a MUST. Take time to care for yourself. Take time just for you.

Adding these suggestions will have you in a great place in no time.

Love always,

Courtney
